The jock strap mounts to one of the open grip screw holes and helps keep the air hoses and eye wires off of the trigger pivot. The jock strap as machined takes up too much room over the trigger and leads to kinked air hose lines. Some judicious filing or dremel work can easily shape the jock strap to lower the height over the trigger to help keep the air hoses and eye wires off of the trigger pivot while not kinking the air hose feeding the solenoid from the front block. $20 does seem a bit high for a part that requires modification to work well, but it is much cheaper than having to machine the rough shape yourself for a part that does help keep the air hoses and eye wires off of the trigger pivot.
